2nd Chelmsford Print Panel Competition

On the 10th October, Chelmsford held their 2nd Print Panel competition.

This competition is open to Essex clubs. Each club is invited to submit 2 panels of 6 prints. Joy Hancock, FRPS MPAGB was the judge this year.

Joy had a difficult task, as there were some very good quality panels on show. First, she commented on each panel as they came up. Then, after the tea break, the winners were announced.

Gordon's entry of "The Cuillins at Dusk" was selected as the third best panel. Joy also commented that she thought Margery's entry of "Sea Birds" warranted a commended, though only the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and highly commended panels were shown at the end of the day.

PHOTOGRAPHERS EXHIBIT FOR 10th ANNIVERSARY

Extract from the Herts and Essex Observer - dated 27th August 2009

A Bishop's Stortford photography club is marking its 10th anniversary with a free exhibition of breathtaking shots from around the world.

ICON, which formed a decade ago this autumn, is showing off dozens of works by its talented members at the Rhodes Arts Complex.

Although none of them are professional photographers,
the quality and variety of still in the venue's Thorleybourne Gallery is far more impressive than might be expected from an amateur group. The 14 artists with works on show have travelled far and wide, with some voyaging as far as Florida or the Falklands to capture wildlife and landscapes. But there are plenty of pictures from closer to home, with others taking snapshots from Scotland and Norfolk's Pensthorpe nature reserve.

Last week,
the Observer toured the gallery and saw the range of photographs on display. From close-up shots of insects and birds to stunning rural panoramas, a lot of passion has clearly gone into them.

Chairwoman Heather Clarke
said: "This isn't like a lot of camera clubs in that we don't have lots of competitions - we're much more practical and personal. We're just ordinary members of the public who really enjoy photography."

ICON PRINT EXHIBITION 2009

Schools Competition

ICON members are working in partnership with Rhodes Art Centre and the Lottery Awards for All to go around junior schools in the area.  We provide the children with diaposable cameras and give them a talk on how to use them, what sort of things to look for, some of the pitfalls, etc.  The children have been very enthusiastic, full of questions, and keen to get 'snapping'.

After the films are processed, the best 100 will be enlarged, mounted and framed.  These will then be hung in a special exhibition in Rhodes Art centre.  It is hoped that we can also have a wall of images from those children who did not get chosen for the main exhibition, so that everybody will have at least one image on show.

The members of ICON have found it very rewarding working with these children, their enthusiasm has rubbed off on all of us, giving our own photography a boost.
